Summertime learning- Magic Tree house passports & more...

I'm sharing today over at The Homeschool Village about sneaking some learning in during the Summer. Have you heard of the Magic Tree House Passport Program? Check it out, and inspire your children to read!

So, bloggy friends, do you have a deep-seated need/compulsion to keep the learning happening even during the Summer? Or, do you give your kids and yourself a much needed break? Or, do you do a light schedule with lots of down-time?

At 8:45 PM, MissMOE said...: I sneak it in anyway I can. We always sign up for the library reading progam. And I make up my own challenge with lots of activities I want my kids to work on. They earn points for working on different activities (such as reading, science experiments, trying new recipes, art projects, hiking, ect)and when they hit a certain point value they use the points to "buy" a special outing with mom and dad.

oh, do tell me more! Have you blogged about your point system? I'd love to hear how you do it, arrange it all...my youngest 2 keep asking for ways to earn a treat...

From mid-May through August we're on summer vacation. We participate in library summer reading programs, take some road trips and other activities/camps and briefly work on weak areas here and there, but nothing formal or every day.

Here, we aren't doing "school" per se, for the summer, but the kids are learning and enjoying themselves through VBS, read alouds and science projects. (our tadpoles and caterpillars just arrived). Should be fun. :-)
