Homeschool Village- "Refreshed" week

I am joining up with the Homeschool Village, and the question this week is:

What do you - homeschool mom - do to get refreshed for the next school year?

I'm going to confess, that as the forever planning-challenged homeschool mom- in the past I haven't done much of anything to refresh for the next school year. We school year round, but the summer months are always lighter in load, usually just math and reading. I don't plan specific time off-except for during our week-long Bible conference, so I don't really feel refreshed...much.

This summer, I am going to sit down and plan a second full week off- not a happenstance week off, where we get up late and putter and it ends up being days off by default...but a planned week off, to relax, recoup and have some fun. I am also going to plan to do something "summer-ish" each week with the kids, either hitting the beach, or the pool, or something like that.

Being a homeschool mom who fails to plan much...I do want to take time at the end of the summer to plan, organize and clean. Having a plan, feeling in control of my homeschool domain, will make me feel refreshed for the new year.

At 10:41 PM, Susan said...: Jenny, our families could just join right up and not skip a beat! We will continue to finish some math lesson and fun history projects throughout the summer. We are always doing literature! Good stuff! But we, too, find time to take a break. I need to focus on making it a real break. We'll compare notes. :)

I am a horrible planner - and it does feel good when I have something down on paper. I just like the flexibility of doing whatever pops up.

At 5:34 AM, GiGi said...: I need to plan better as well. I have VERY good intentions and then well.... you know how it goes. I declared the month of June for us as SUMMER and then 1 month after the baby is off. We are in week 2 and let me just say it is WONDERFUL! LOL

I've been homeschooling many kids for a very long time and I'm amazed at how slow I am at getting things in order. I think I should have been at this spot 10 years ago. That's how slow I am!

In the past my best re-energizers for my next year is to read a book during the summer on home schooling. One that didn't bring condemnation, but was a realistic look at home schooling.
Each year required a different type of book as the challenges were different.
I need to find one this year before starting year 22!!!
I am also making an effort to take some time off this summer and just play!

At 9:34 AM, Blessed Mommy said...: During the Summer months when public school is out, my best friend(kids go to public school) and I plan lots of fun day trips to parks, beaches, etc. She works 3-11 in the Summer months only so we are able to do these things with our kids. Her children stay at my house in the afternoons til their Daddy gets home from work.
What does this mean in our homeschool? Well, although we still do math and reading in the mornings, it is like vacation for my kids and I. We do lots of living studying during these months. When public school starts back, my son is ready to dive in too.
