Welcome home you! What does your tail-tell?

My dog's tail-wag tells me she is happy to see me.

I walk into a room, and I know I've made her day, just because I am present.

The wag of her tail- tells me, "I see you! I'm happy to see you!"

Even if she is too tired to stand and greet me, the thumping sound of her tail against the ground marks the moment her eyes catch sight of me...and I know, I am welcomed.

I know, without a doubt,

I am a special person. I am special to her.
The day got brighter, because I appeared.

She's not too busy to acknowledge my presence with at least this herald.

She physically says hello.

"How are you?" her eyes ask...

"I can tell you are fine", her nose probes and confirms.

In our busy day-to-day busyness

do our children feel as welcomed by us?

"I am happy you are here!"

I distinctly remember, as a teen, a few homes that enthusiastically welcomed their children and friends daily. Parents in these homes were happy, not put-out, to see us. Parents in these homes always had a welcome and smile to greet us with, wanted to know about our day, did not treat us like we were in the way...and most often greeted us with a yummy snack or a cold drink.

I remember those homes still, and I loved visiting.

I want my kids to know, without a doubt, how special they are to me

and I know, I want them to want to be home. I want their friends to want to be in our home.

Wag more moms, Bark less.

At 9:26 PM, alicia said...: Never quite thought of what the tail-tells. It's a sweet thought to think of how happy a dog is to see you. And how lucky you are to live in CA. My family wants a dog, but I don't want it to be indoors and I'm afraid that in IOWA it would be too cold like 6 months out of the year.

My daugher has this book that is in harsh condition becuase she reads and rereads it so often, but it talks about what different gestures and movements mean for a cat. Like when a cat rubs up against you, the position of its tail, and when the cat sits in certain postions.

Sky didn't want an indoor dog at first, but 1) we were getting it to make me feel safe at night, I was having some night terrors..and having it inside would make me feel safer and 2) as we researched it, we realized that dogs are pack animals, and that the behavior problems we seen in other dogs might stem from them feeling isolated, even punished by being shunned by their 'pack'. So, we decided it was an inside/outside dog, or get two dogs so they could be together. Sky is not an animal person, so he wasn't ready for 2 dogs. We really enjoy our dog, much more than I thought. I do thank the Lord everyday that I have no carpet in the house, specially during potty training..I was very grateful! Good luck with your decision, I know it's a hard one, and that a lot goes into the decision process.

no, I actually haven't seen Marley & Me, but I read the book- actually a week before we were to pick up our labradoodle, which caused me much panic...! Dh won't watch it, he hates sad endings, I'll have to rent it sometime when he is away!

I'm visiting from Monday Mingle. I really enjoyed your post. Our cats are in the house and are always happy to see us when we come home. I have 6 kids and no matter what mood I'm in I always try to greet them with love when they come into a room I'm in.

As much as I love dogs, though, it does seem kind of sad that our dogs tend to make us feel loved & welcome more easily than family sometimes does.
