Boston! The Home gang takes a tour

Sky and I visited the Boston area two years ago, loved it, and really wanted to take the kids. We finally got our chance this May, after we spotted some super-low airfares. Visiting Boston is a super rich experience for us on two fronts; 1)the history! I loove History, I love visiting places I've read about, and I loved/longed to share these places with our kids. 2) meeting up with people we've met through having the Bible college boys/girls over to our house every week. Sweet, sweet fellowship.

There were many firsts for Demi and Amie. Look! - A very first plane ride!

Look! -very first subway train ride! This actually had monumental buildup after seeing subways in movies like Narnia and Spiderman.

Our very first Bible College boy, graduated several years ago, now serves on the college campuses in the area. He has become a very good tour guide, on the side. Here he is enriching us with his knowledge (which was considerable) of the old statehouse building. We actually had other people stop to listen to him at several stops. (we are joking about sending him a costume so he can do the tour in a proper way...)

We have been to Cape Cod a couple of summers and hub&I went to Boston alone and took our kids once. We are headed to the Cape to veg again this summer - children's choice and we decided that it has been about 10 years since we went to Boston, so it may be on my summer list, too. We run so much at home all year, that I think everyone rather welcomes the slower pace and we just try to do one or two side trips either enroute, or during the week. Glad you had such a great trip overseas. I think I am not a very good world traveler, but I enjoy your trip!

I have something to ask you about...

I can't continue to teach my son after the age of 13. He will have to go to secondary school. He has been accepted into the one that we really wanted him to attend, I am very glad to say. I am thinking of having a party for him just before his 13th birthday in 2011 to mark the end of his learning at home, his journey into being a teenager and the start of his regular school life. Have you any ideas? What do people usually do in the US?

Would be grateful for any ideas or advice you can give.
