Homeschool = TIME

We homeschool for many different reasons. No homework, was not actually on the original list..but it has been an unexpected blessing. I am sitting here, blogging, while 5 kids play on the floor around me. They are not sitting at the table working on homework, but playing with the playmobil sets that live permanently (it seems) in my front room. Another blessing is the reality of 5 kids, ages 13 down to 6, -playing with each other.

Unexpected bursts of creativity are another bonus blessings. The first photo is of a fairy house Meg and Josie built in a neighbor's garden. The second photo above, the girls took a few mornings ago when we had some unexpected fog roll in. The things they think up usually surprise me. I am really glad that their childhood is cushioned with lots of free time to be creative.

I suspect they are sitting back and waiting for him to grow up and have all sorts of problems... God forbid.

I love home schooling.

At 5:15 PM, Jane said...: As a public school teacher I would love to ditch homework! It takes time and resources to prepare. The kids hate it. It takes more time to go over and correct which is really important if you are going to assign homework. I would love it if kids were reading for fun and being creative. Or, spending time talking with their family. I don't remember being enslaved by homework as a kid. In my case the district mandates it and the parents want it too.

I remember homework as a kid, but I don't remember being enslaved to it for hours the way I hear many parents complain of it. I wonder if it is a product of our times? I am hearing this complaint not only in public school circles; I was part of a church homeschool umbrella group for a year, it was just starting up, and amazingly, most of the families involved were leaving the church's private school because of too much homework, their kids would be up late most nights till 10 p.m. trying to finish.
