13 benefits of having more children then most

1. 3 words: hand-me-downs

2. buying in bulk at warehouse stores...and using the food up before it goes bad

3. the sweet, happy view sitting at your dining table

4. the ultimate fun-naming a baby

5. your pediatrician's office staff recognizes your voice right away on the phone

6. deductable? No problem, you meet it by March

7. Your pediatrician gives you the really big bottle of whatever...she knows everyone will need it.

8. One asthma nebulizer machine's price, when averaged out among at least 3 kids suddenly seems a bargain.

9. You have at least 3 kids with asthma, plus the usual ear infections, colds...you are your local pharmacist's favorite customer, and he bought you a Christmas gift.

10. You amuse the pharmacy staff greatly when you walk in, fan 10 prescriptions like a hand of cards and tell them "pick a card, any card..."

11. when faced with any hot-button parenting question at a 1st time mom's baby shower, instead of stiring debate, you honestly reply that you can't remember anymore what you did with your babies.

12. once you survive three, you now have lots of hands for chores and helping

13. thinking up great replies to the very rude comments thoughtless people seem to feel free to make (usually in front of your kids) such as "don't you know what causes that?", "better you then me" "are you done yet?" "are they all yours?" My favorite replies: *"yes, and we are very good at it!", *"birth control is for wimps", *"yes, I have my hands full-full of blessings".

At 8:37 PM, Unknown said...: Hi Jenny!!! This is Skittles from Just sweet Little me. I love your TT. I have 4 kids too. They are 14 Carl Jr, 13 Quincy, 8 (9 in Jan.) Jarod, and Teresa 6. I know all about those OLD clothes. I finally had my girl so I get to see new pink/purple dresses!!! Not that Jarod wasn't cute in a dress. ;)

The woman in the 12th shot is my friend Carolyn. My pic is higher up. :(

yes they do, tho I only get the comments once in a while, bigger families seem to get them all the time. Usually I just get stares, especially if I have "extra" kids with me. Once at the library, I had 2 extra kids with me- makes that 6 kids, and a man asked if they were all mine, I said no-only 4 were and he said "oh good" relieved. Later I thought I should have asked him why that was good that all 6 weren't mine? why should he care? I think mostly the "you do know what causes that" is supposed to be funny and friendly, but a few times it didn't come out nice...
I hate the "you finally got your boy" comment, in front of my kids..what kind of message does that send to my girls??

At 9:43 AM, Anonymous said...: You know it is funny. We have three and I often get comments, especially since ewe homeschool and I take them with me everywhere. However, of my homeschooling friends we have the least. Most of us have at least three several five and up.

Lately my husband has been mentioning that he wouldn't mind having a house full which would mean he would need a raise so we could adopt becaus eat the mention of me gettin my tubes un-tied or whatever they call it he said a definite NO (I get sicker each child.) I know what you mean about the doctors and pharmacist.
At 11:05 AM, Melissa H. said...: Jenny, I know what you're feeling! My kiddos are 10, 7.5, 4 and 2 (on Tuesday). Three of those are boys who get scrapes and boo-boos all the time and the youngest is my princess. Of course, with three older brothers, she gets her share of scrapes too.

I know exactly what you mean with the questions. My mom always asks me if I'm pregnant whenever we're on the phone. It doesn't matter if it's only been a day since we've talked!
