An open letter to the man at Starbucks

Dear man-who ordered the venti vanilla latte breve, decaf;

We are extremely sorry that you picked up my husband's venti vanilla latte breve-quad shot by mistake.
And as you were lying awake at 3 a.m. wondering if all of Starbucks had laughed at you as you walked outside oblivious to your mistake, I would like to assure you that is was only a small 1/4 of the cafe that laughed. It was really more of a sympathy-snicker, really. Everyone felt really bad for you, it was not done on purpose. You were in too much of a hurry for anyone to realize the sad truth until your order showed up at the counter.

I don't know if this will console you, as you frantically dig out the cup from your trash can at 3 a.m. and confirm the clearly marked "4" written on the side of the cup, or only fan the flames of resentment in your agitated/very awake-being, but it was really your own fault. Don't be in such a hurry next time.
As Juan Valdez himself, would probably tell you, -a true connoisseur of coffee savors his drink and does not rush. The first really will be last. It's a cosmic thing, don't you know.

One time I grabbed a coffee off the counter thinking for sure it was mine and was just about to take a big sip when I happened to look down and noticed it was foam on top instead of my whipped cream. I was so embarressed I coulda died. And I could just see the staff rolling their eyeballs and commenting on the Starbucks virgin during their coffee break.

I hope he is o.k. too, tho we figured if it was a medical condition he would be alot more careful about checking his drink. We figured he is just probably sensitive to cafeine and was probably awake all night...

yes, starbucks can be confusing. I like it when they call out your name and the drink, less chance for mistakes that way. it would be an interesting place to work, don't you think?
and I'm sure they didn't think twice about your almost mistake, it happens all the time I bet.

I know, his eyes must have bugged out of his head when he finally saw the number 4- for quad shot on the cup! Yikes!!
I had to post it after it happened, knew it would make a funny story.

I have to tell you though. I think decaf is just a complete waste of what could have been a real cup of coffee. Decaf. Pffttt.

hubby doesn't usually make quad shots a normal thing. He was just up really early that morning to check on a concrete pour and then that evening he was heading to a bible study that is usually 2 hrs. long, he didn't want to fall asleep in the meeting-so the need for a qaud shot. It was early enough in the evening that he would still be able to go to sleep when he got home that night.
